PRELUDE 1 : SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE :
Phoenix, Arizona.

The site specific performances of the triangle, the circle & the line form part of the PSi 2000 Conference - Visceral and Virtual - From Myth to Millennium at Phoenix, Arizona 9-12 March 2000.

The site specific performances develop further the abstract narrative of the forms, responding to the context of the sites themselves.

The circle - a visceral form deriving movement from the solar plexus, is performed by Andrea Dates on a mountain site in Papago Park. The body is encased in a 3m long, 7m diameter skirt which is pegged down to the earth so that the performer unites with its element of earth.

The performance takes place at sunset, as the sun's daily cycle returns to its primary point.

The triangle - a transcendental form - creates a bridge between levels of consciousness. It is performed as an installation within an external space attached to the Art Museum of Arizona State University.

Richard Harding occupies this space throughout the day and into the night and early dawn - so that a continual 24hr response to the solar light is recorded.

The line is performed together within the 'neutral' theatrical setting of the university campus. The line is a very grounded space within which both elements of earth and air can co-habit.

Silence and the intensity of the interaction between the two performers creates the 'soundscape' framing the piece.
